Real Storage wars: Battle of the ages
In a galaxy very very close,
Peoples buying habits had began to increase,
leading to a cluttered and hoarding lifestyle,
can we find a hero in all this?
(REAL) STORAGE WARS: BATTLE OF THE AGES
So as we know people are becoming wealthier than ever before, meaning they can purchase a lot more goods. However, the biggest problem they have is. Where do they store the goods?
3 decades ago the very first self-storage companies were created. in 1964 Russ Williams and Bob Munn started up three different stores; U-Share, U-Lock it and U-Carry the key. they originally made it for the oil workers to store their wrenches and pipe grips in their home town of Odessa in Texas, which was and still is an oil town. Except, the first customers were, in fact, the general public who showed up with sofa's and toasters to store.
15 years later the self-storage had reached Europe, Andrew Jacobs created Lok'n store where he paid 60p per square foot as he knew that people were willing to pay up to 10 times that amount of money to store their sentimental goods.
I feel as though self-storage, in some cases, is a life saver although it can condemn people into purchasing more and more meaningless products which will end up in the same place as the other meaningless rubbish they buy. What i find interesting is the fact that people pay for an empty room with four rooms and a door each month, nevertheless it does help out a lot of people.
Take Dave and Allison Bailey, they now live a blissfully uncluttered life because of self-storage units. Dave is a big fan of collecting life size figures of his favourite characters from Dr who, Kung fu panda and of course Star Wars. He had them all over the home, in the living room, in the hallways and even had Kung fu panda outside in the garden. Having the self storage meant that he could store his beloved figures even if it did mean he would spend in excess of £400 a month on his unit.
In America they created a smash hit TV show called 'Storage Wars'. They sold off the storage units which people had not paid their fees for. This means that the men and women who purchased the storage units but couldn't pay the bill would find their goods inside of it would be sold off. To me this is a fantastic way as not only did it mean the owners of the units can get their money back but it also meant that other people can benefit off the products and items inside the storage. Sometimes they would walk away with items that they wouldn't get a lot of money for, other times they could be lucky and walk out with something valuable.
In England they are a bit nicer when it comes to debt. if someone doesn't pay the bill for the unit, they could sell it themselves to help reduce the debt or they could give it away. What a load of rubbish!!!
If they wanted to reduce the debt, other people should be able to buy the
items inside that storage. Who cares if it has sentimental value to the owners?? If they wanted them why don't they pay the costs of the storage? In my opinion they get what they deserve if they don't pay their bills.

Other than having items of sentimental value stored in the units, businesses are starting to use them as company bases. In fact 42% of storage units in England are taken up by new and upcoming companies. Most of them use it as a stock room but others use it as a temporary business station before they expand. This is an ingenious idea, instead of purchasing a building where they would have to pay all the bills for, they just pay a standard price a month all utilities included. That really is amazing! For me the most useful aspect of using storage units as a business start up is the fact its cheap and you don't have to worry about any other utility bills as everything is paid for in your monthly bill.
Thinking about storage units in general is pretty dull to say the least, who even wants to keep old junk that you've kept for ages and have sentimental value as well as helping you remember how amazing your childhood was and how great it is to relive past memories.
Come to think of it.... i would.
