RBS : Royal bank of no money

RBS.....Royal Bank of Scotland...One of the biggest banks in the UK. Runs out of money?! Sir Fred Goodwin, was in charge of the  services to banking, he was the chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland when it ran up the biggest corporate loss in British history which was a loss of a staggering £24.1 billion pounds, which seems strange because at points it was the fastest growing bank in the UK it outgrew every single British bank. It pulled off record-breaking deals, they made billions of pounds in investment banking, its top executives drove the bank forward to become, at one point, the world’s biggest bank, and collected fabulous bonuses along the way. However it all came crashing down in October 2008. They had to be paid out by the British tax-payer, it may not have been the only bank to be rescued but it was the most toxic bank in Britain. George Matthewson, was the chief executive of RBS in 1998, and his time was coming to an end so he had to look f...

Uber's hack probe

Massive shock...........Uber's back in the headline for the wrong reasons.....again! It is said that Uber has failed to disclose a massive data breach. Which is shocking because of how their business is now looking after what happened in London. Investigations were being opened by regulators from three different places; Italy, The US and the UK. Now the US is a massive country whereas the UK and Italy are medium sized. However they all hold a lot of power and persuasion over other countries in the world, especially The US. Now, this happened because Uber failed to notify user or regulators about the incident which happened last year in 2016, the breach included the theft of names, email addresses and phone numbers of approximately fifty million passengers and seven million drivers for that period of time. They finally admitted that on Tuesday 21st of November 2017. Yes, it is good to admit that something has gone wrong, but it shouldn't take more than a year to do so...

COACH CARTER

In brief Coach Carter is phenomenal film. Its plot is; a successful business man called Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) returns to his old high school to get the basketball team into shape by using tough rules and academic discipline. He is determined to to get the players to excel in class as well as on the court. When i first watched the film i watched it as i normally would, sometimes i wouldn't pay attention to the details of the movie. For example how Coach Carter incorporated his management skills onto the players. Baring in mind i watched this in 2007, two years after the release. I was 8 at the time. Of course i had to watch the film again to see the leadership and management skills Carter has and how it effected the mentality of his team. Throughout the film we see Coach Carter as a ruthless man who takes no rubbish from the players. For example at one point in the film we notice that the players have to sign a contract, this contract states that they are only allowed ...

Food banks: Pressures on the system

What do we know about food banks? Food banks provide emergency food for people who don't have a lot of money and they struggle to buy enough food for themselves or their family. Winter is coming and we all know rising costs hurt everyone and that it hurts the poorer families even more as they struggle to cope with their day-to-day activities. A big food bank I know is in the Newcastle West End - it opened in 2013 as many people (volunteers) were concerned about the wellbeing of people who struggle financially. The only way to use a food bank is if you receive a referral from social services , housing support and in rare conditions the citizens advice bureau. Tens of thousands of volunteers nationally have racked up an astonishing four million hours a year stocktaking, picking up and distributing food and fundraising. In my opinion, food banks are the most amazing of things, it helps the people who are struggling with money and it does make me feel as though I don't have to ...

US and UK obstacle course

As we all know the UK voted to leave the EU. YAY! Or so we think that this is a YAY moment. I've noticed that many people are wary about our position and as of yet we still haven't left the EU. But a big part of leaving is the fact we will now be running outside of the free market, and since this would happen it would mean that we can secure a more lucrative deal with other countries mainly the US, Liam Fox said that securing a more lucrative deal with the US is one of the biggest prizes of leaving the EU. More than a year after he took the job as International Trade Secretary, those hopes are taking an absolute battering from the US. Everyone knows that the US is a very, very tough country to negotiate with in fact one things they did was negotiate with a Canadian airline and you know what they did?  They proposed Tariffs of an increase of 200%. 200%? thats a hell of a lot of money for the Canadian airline to dish out. You know who'll be disadvantaged by this other ...

IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST

John Lewis, one of the biggest names on the high street, is allowing us to look inside of how they work. However, there is more to this than meets the eye. A man named Andrew Murphy was in charge of something, that would hurt a lot of staff-This being redundancies. He had managed a couple of these before but not on this scale or level of complexity. The number to be made redundant wasn't decided but it was in the thousands. As i saw this i automatically thought that this would be difficult for him as he has never had to make this many redundancies before. In my point of view i think that making this many people redundant is a great idea as long as it saves the company money, as expected it would save million and millions of pounds. Although, it could mean that a lot of the staff now become more demoralised as they could think that more redundancies are coming and they could be next. The way they are going to do this is by replacing all the local call centres in the John Lewis s...

Doomed Designs: They failed to plan so they planned to fail.

Persil, Coca Cola, Mini's. All of which, have made mistakes in the past which have affected them on a large scale. Did it all work out? Persil Power? Persil, were the biggest brand when it was created in 1909, it was unrivalled by other brands such as Ariel and Fairy. Throughout the years, it remained as the best detergent in the UK and so it become a must have in every household. I feel as though since they started early they had a bigger chance at becoming successful and it really shows. Things were going well until the 1990's.  Ariel the second largest brand in the UK was able to put Persil's dominance on the brink. Why? This was because people found that the scientific approach in adverts were more appealing than the link between detergent and happy families which is what Persil had in the adverts. And so began the SOAP WARS!!!! Persil were under serious pressure to create a new powdered detergent which would power through the competition. So they ended...
